SALVIA DIVINORUM

Salvia divinorum or S. divinorum, is a plant that contains the hallucinogen Salvinorin A. Neither Salvia divinorum or Salvinorin is regulated in the United States or controlled in any other country except Australia. Salvia divinorum is openly distributed through Internet sites and "head" shops. It is a plant that is native to the area of Oaxaca, Mexico, and can be grown in any semi-tropical climate or indoors. In the United States it has been cultivated in California and Hawaii. The active component of Salvia divinorum is Salvinorin A. There is no accepted medical use for Salvia divinorum. The hallucinogenic effects generally last about 1 hour. High doses can cause unconsciousness and short-term memory loss.
