KHAT

Khat, is derived from the Catha Edulis shrub that contains the stimulants Cathinone (CSA Schedule I) and Cathine (CSA Schedule IV) which affect the central nervous system. The shrub is cultivated in East Africa and on the Arabian peninsula, where it is used in a cultural tradition for both recreation and religion. It is legal in many countries, including Great Britian. Typically Khat is chewed like tobacco, retained in the cheek and chewed intermittently to release the active drug. The dried plant can be made into a tea or a chewable paste.
