“INTER-AGENCY COOPERATION”

It began with a phone call that the Paramus Police Criminal Investigation Bureau received from the Ontario, California Narcotic Task Force on February 1st.  The information was that during an airport interdiction, a K-9 officer intercepted a package containing 30 lbs of marijuana being sent to a business located in Paramus, New Jersey.  Pursuant to the call, arrangements were made for a controlled delivery of the 30 lbs to be made at the business.
Subsequently, the Paramus Police Department, along with the Bergen County Narcotics Task Force, delivered the package of marijuana to the business, with a Paramus detective posing as a UPS driver.  An employee of the business signed for the package and within an hour was observed taking three packages, all similar looking to the one that was delivered, to his vehicle.
When the officers approached the driver and vehicle, they found the packages each to contain thirty (30) lbs of marijuana.  Both the employee who signed for the package and a second co-conspirator were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute.  Bail was set in the amount of $100,000 for each individual.
The NJNEOA commends the officers from the Paramus Police Department, The Bergen County Narcotics Task Force, as well as the Ontario, California Narcotic Task Force on their spirit of cooperation which resulted in such an outstanding seizure in this multi-jurisdictional investigation.
