“THIS ISN'T A MOVIE”

On January 3rd, 2007, when Jersey City police officers found bags marked with the “Blood Diamond” logo in a suspect’s pocket, it wasn’t advertisements for the movie that they were looking at.,
The movie which was released in December 2006, starring Leonard DiCaprio, is about the smuggling of a priceless diamond.  The bags that the Jersey City Police seized contained another smuggler’s commodity, Heroin.
Working on a tip that they had received earlier, officers conducted surveillance of Jonathan Cato, 18, of Gifford Avenue, in the vicinity of Kennedy Boulevard and Communipaw Avenue.  As the officers approached Cato, he ran away and began throwing vials of cocaine.  When the officers apprehended Cato, they found several more vials of cocaine still on him along with 16 bags of heroin stamped "Blood Diamond".
He was charged with resisting arrest, drug possession, possession with intent to distribute, and possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school and 500 feet of public property.
The NJNEOA commends the Jersey City Police Department in their tireless efforts in narcotics enforcement.
