"NOT YOUR ORDINARY PAIRS OF SHOES"

One day in the beginning of December 2002, the Woodbridge Township Narcotics and Special Investigations Unit received a tip that there were two individuals staying in a room at the Days Inn Motel, Route 1, Woodbridge, who had in their possession a substantial amount of drugs. Lieutenant Robert Hubner, the commander of the unit, contacted the Middlesex County Narcotics Task Force, and it was at this time that a co-operative effort began./span>

Surveillance was established of the Days Inn room, while a brief investigation pertaining to the occupants was conducted. A determination was made to approach the occupants of the room and speak with them regarding a consent to search the room. Both occupants were found to be from Texas, and besides having one week's worth of clothing, they were found to have an extraordinary amount of shoes in their possession. When questioned about the unusual amount of shoes, one of the room's occupants informed the officers that the shoes actually contained quantities of heroin in the hollowed out soles.

As it turned out, the shoes were found to contain four and one-half kilograms of heroin, worth approximately nine hundred thousand dollars. It is believed that the individuals are "mules" for an organization that brought the drugs from Mexico into Brownsville, Texas and then would supply the Middlesex County area, New York City and Connecticut with kilogram quantities of heroin.

The NJNEOA once again commends the Woodbridge Township Narcotics and Special Investigations Unit for their perservering effort in narcotics enforcement.
