"OPERATION DR. FEEL GOOD"

From August through November 2004, the Union County Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the Louis Gallicchio, Sr. family and Associates large-scale drug trafficking organization in the County of Union, New Jersey. This organization was suspected of distributing prescription drugs, specifically Oxycontin, in and around Union County.
In August 2004, the Union County Narcotics Strike Force, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, the New Jersey State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation commenced a joint electronic surveillance investigation referred to as "Operation Dr. Feel Good." Shortly thereafter, the first of ten electronic surveillance orders was signed authorizing the interception of communications between members of this organization and suppliers to the organization. During the course of the investigation, police departments from Massachussetts and Arizona also assisted with the investigation.
Most of the drugs were obtained from two pharmacists in Essex County. Some of the drugs were sold locally. They were also transported by New Jersey based couriers, some of whom were Blood street gang members, utilizing vehicles and trains to Massachussetts, and sold to retail level distibutors, where the demand for Oxycontin was high.
As case agent, Detective Christopher Gulbin worked closely with Assistant Prosecutors James O. Tansey and Robert Codey in order to bring the job to a successful conclusion. The investigation resulted in the arrest of 24 members of this Oxycontin distribution organization. Officers from New Jersey, Massachussetts and Arizona arrested 19 suspects in New Jersey, 4 in Massachussetts and 1 in Arizona. During the course of the arrests, detectives seized tens of thousands of prescription drug tablets, mostly Oxycontin, three firearms, and over $75,000 in United States currency. This organization is estimated to have sold as much as $150,000 worth of Oxycontin tablets per week over the past year.
The NJNEOA congratulates Detective Gulbin, Assistant Prosecutors Tansey and Codey, along with the officers from the Union County Narcotics Strike Force on their performance, attitude, initiative and team spirit shown during the successful narcotics investigation.
