"TOP-NOTCH OFFICERS"

On the 11th and 12th of January, 2005 Sheriff Leo P. McGuire Of the Bergen County Sheriff's Department had something to be proud of. Two Corrections Officers gave that extra effort while performing their normal duties and because of that, two inmates were caught attempting to participate in illegal drug activity.
On January 11th, during the 2400 - 0800 shift, Corrections Officer Sergeant Donald Picinich was assigned as the South Sector 1st floor supervisor for the Bergen County Jail. Sergeant Picinich received a written note stating that inmate Paul DeLuca was in possession of several hypodermic needles. A search was conducted by Sergeant Picinich, resulting in the confiscation of two hypodermic needles. One needle was hidden in DeLuca's leg brace and the other was hidden in an envelope addressed to DeLuca.
On January 12th, during the 2400 - 0800 shift, Corrections Officer Timothy Sullivan was assigned to the Intake/Release section of the same facility. Officer Sullivan was beginning the intake process of inmate William Baker. As Sullivan was searching inmate Baker, a black bag was recovered from his person. The bag was confiscated and searched. In it were twenty-four small plastic bags containing a brown colored powdery substance, and twenty-two small bags containing a white colored rock like substance, both believed to be controlled dangerous substances.
The NJNEOA concurs with Sheriff Leo P. McGuire and congratulates Officers Picinich and Sullivan for their diligent efforts and keen observations in attempting to keep the Bergen County Jail drug free.
