"SELLING MORE THAN MORTGAGES"

During the latter months of 2004, Detectives James Powers and Gary Friedhoff of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Narcotic's Strike Force learned of an extensive narcotics operation that was being conducted in the Colts Neck and Marlboro Township area. David Ganley, a mortgage consultant and formerly from Colts Neck, led his cocaine distribution operation from his Sayreville apartment in a very stealth and guarded manner. Ganley, according to confidential sources, would only deal with people in his inner circle and would be very difficult to infiltrate.
After months of persistence and with the help of the Marlboro and Colts Neck Police Departments, several members of Ganley's inner circle were targeted, infiltrated and arrested. As the investigation continued, Detective Thomas Mantel, a Manalapan Police Officer on loan to the Strike Force, was able to gain the trust of Ganley and penetrate his inner circle. Through the course of numerous telephone conversations, meetings and an undercover purchase of cocaine, arrangements were made to purchase six ounces of cocaine.
In March 2005, when the day of the six ounce purchase arrived, the officers conducted an all-day surveillance of Ganley in an attempt to learn the location of Ganley's "stash house" that was unknown to the confidential sources. The detectives found that Ganley was utilizing an apartment located in the Winding Woods Apartment complex in Sayreville to store his cocaine at.
As Ganley proceeded from his "stash house" to meet with Detective Mantel, he was followed and subsequently stopped by officers in Colts Neck. Upon Ganley's arrest, he was found to be in possession of eight ounces of cocaine and a loaded Tec 9-mm handgun containing an extended magazine loaded with hollow point ammunition.
Both the Monmouth and Middlesex County Strike Forces, along with officers from the Sayreville Police Department were able to gain entry into Ganley's Winding Wood apartment. Once inside, the officers seized over a kilogram of cocaine and bank accounts containing approximately $50,000 of profits derived from his illegal drug enterprise. The 2003 Lincoln Navigator used by Ganley to conduct "business" was also seized.
Ganley was charged with possession of over five ounces of cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute over five ounces, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and possession of a weapon during an illegal narcotics operation. Ganley was also charged with the previous undercover sale to Detective Mantel.
The NJNEOA congratulates Detectives Mantel, Powers and Friedhoff, along with officers from the Monmouth County Strike Force and Colts Neck Police Department on their perserverance while conducting such an impressive narcotics investigation.
