"Keansburg / Bayshore co-op investigation."

On September 9, 2004 officers from the Keansburg Police Department and the Bayshore Narcotics Task Force began an investigation into the illegal drug distribution being conducted by Jeffrey Bennett, 42, from his Maplewood Avenue apartment. The investigation also included the dealings of Mary Shenfield, who had been distributing illegal drugs from her Raritan Avenue residence.

During the course of the investigation quantities of both heroin and crack cocaine were made from the individual’s residences.

The investigation culminated on October 29th when Bennett was arrested and charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute and then lodged at the Monmouth County Jail, Freehold Township, on a $50,000 bail bond.

Shenfield, also known as "Smokey," was charged with distribution of heroin to an undercover officer and possession with intent to distribute and was released from custody on her recognizance.

A total of seventeen individuals were apprehended and charged as a result of this investigation. Several had sold either heroin or crack cocaine to an undercover police officer during the investigation. In addition to the arrests, three cars were seized along with more than $1,600 in cash.

The NJNEOA commends both the Keansburg Police Department and the Bayshore Narcotics Task Force on their commitment to narcotics enforcement.
