children, ages 8 and 11, were turned over to the state Division of Youth and Family Services.
Darnell Roque told authorities that the gun was bought on the street in Newark and used as protection for his wife
and her children when he wasn't home. Roque told police the house was the target of numerous break-ins for the drug
supply. The handgun was turned over to the Monmouth County Forensic Unit for testing and will be sent to the New
Jersey State Police Lab to determine if the weapon was used in any other crimes.
Three other individuals were also in the residence at the time police arrived and were issued summonses for possession
and being under the influence of marijuana.
